The Stanislaus Sworn Deputies Association (SSDA) would like to announce theirendorsement of Rob Jackson for Stanislaus County Sheriff in the upcoming 2010 election. Prior to theendorsement vote, the SSDA held a candidates forum in which both Jackson and incumbent Sheriff Adam Christianson attended.
Both candidates were asked a variety of questions that were submitted by members of the association.
The questions ranged from their current experience to the plans that both candidates had for the Stanislaus
County Sheriff’s Department in the future. After the forum, ballots were sent out to the nearly 180 members of the association. After counting the votes, Rob Jackson emerged as the winner of the SSDA endorsement.
The SSDA is made up of nearly 180 sworn deputies and coroners. SSDA members work as patrol deputies, detectives, school resource offers, K-9 officers and deputy coroners among others. The SSDA was established in early 2009 when sworn patrol personnel voted to separate from the jail staff and form a new bargaining unit. The previous bargaining unit was known as the Deputy Sheriff’s Association (DSA) and was made up of both patrol and jail staff.
“I was very pleased with the number of our patrol deputies who voted in this endorsement election”, said SSDA President Vince Bizzini. “It shows that they are involved and care about this department and its direction.”
“It’s a very unique situation when you have the opportunity to have a voice in who runs the organization that you work for”, said SSDA Vice-President Ryan Killian. “Ultimately, it will be up to the citizens of Stanislaus County to decide who will be the best choice to run the Sheriff’s Department, but the SSDA was obviously impressed with what Jackson brings to the table.” Jackson worked for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department almost 20 years prior to being hired as a Captain for Turlock Police Department. Jackson was serving as Chief of Police for the city of Waterford when he accepted the job at Turlock PD.
“I am both honored and humbled that the patrol deputies and coroners have chosen to endorse me in this election”, said Jackson. “As I have said from the beginning, this is not about personal accomplishments. I am doing this for a department that has done so much for me. It means a lot that they feel I am the best person for the job.”
“If they had endorsed Christianson, it would have told me that they were happy with the direction the department was going and there wouldn’t be much sense in me continuing in this campaign”, said Jackson. “There is still a long way to go in this election, but knowing that the employees are behind me makes all the difference and I look forward to serving as their sheriff.”

The Sabatino Report
By Carmen Sabatino
The Stanislaus Sworn Deputies Association has endorsed the election of a new Sheriff. We can only hope that the endorsement stops with the Sheriff’s Department and thus provides the strongest message possible as to the needs of the Sheriff’s Department.
The Modesto Police Officers Association endorsements send the message that they are for sale to political hacks in exchange for political power and more money.
The MPOA desire to endorse city council candidates is understandable. How do they explain attempting to sell what little influence they have to elect candidates to the Modesto Irrigation District and the Modesto Board of Education.
I hope taxpayers appreciate the courage shown by Sheriff Deputies in making this endorsement.
